“Colors of Kandy“ is a story about the diverse life in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Despite Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Christianity being practiced in Kandy, and Sinhalese, Tamil, English and Arabic all being spoken, the appearance of a life of peace and harmony exists. However, there remains a subtle, not so obvious tension between the diverse communities in the city. Yet, amidst such diversity and quiet tension, Kandyans do choose and wish to live in peace amongst one another. The story offers a message of hope and a sense that we can all live together despite our self-imposed differences. With the recent violence in Kandy against Islamic communities inflicted by their Buddhist neighbors, it is important now more than ever to highlight the harmony that can exist. The beauty and kindness of Kandyans is equal throughout the diverse communities.
